Improve The Quality Of Life At Home With A Clean Crawlspace Area

By Andrea Davidson

The crawl space is one of the least visited areas in your home and this is because it is located under the building and is difficult to access. Inaccessibly of this area makes is hard to clean. With time, dirt and debris will accumulate and create the right condition for rodents and insects to infest the area. Maintaining a clean crawlspace not only improves the health of the family but also prevents damages that arise due to increased moisture.

The air you breathe, some of it comes from the spaces underneath your building. If the crawl space is not cleaned and dried properly, you may end up breathing contaminated air. This can harm your family. The contaminated air may cause health complications like allergic reactions. Therefore, you need to ensure the area is cleaned properly.

Crawl spaces are located underground and they are prone to flooding and increased moisture. When it rains, water may seep and settle on those areas. Whenever there is a piping system leakage, the water may find its way into the basement and crawl spaces. With increased humidity, you may experience many problems like rotting of wooden structures.

Since this underground part of your home is not cleaned often, it tends to accumulate dirt, dust, and debris. If the area is flooded with water, the debris starts decomposing. Within a short time, bad smell starts coming out from that area. The family members may start experiencing health problems like coughing, sneezing, and nasal congestion.

In addition, molds also infest that area and multiply quickly. Molds growth causes more problems because harmful airborne spores are released to the air. Through the stack effect, those spores are moved from the underground to the upstairs and ground level. Moreover, you may incur more cost in cooling and heating the home because of the increased humidity.

The increasing moisture also causes damages on floors. Tile floors can be damaged by the moisture. The grout lines are also deformed and the wall painting starts peeling off. Cleaning these areas is not easy because they are difficult to access. In addition, there may be presence of insects that could bite you causing serious insect bite symptoms. Rodents may also infest the area.

Moreover, you need to prevent the moisture from causing more damages. This part of your home should be encapsulated with moisture resistant material. It needs to be sealed with a material that cannot allow moisture to enter the building. Before the sealing is done, the area has to be cleaned and dried. The contractor you consult to work on your crawl space should have the right equipments and expertise to dry the area completely before insulation is done. Even after the insulation, it is important to regularly clean that area.

In a nutshell, your crawl space is as important as the other parts of the building. Although it is not easily accessible, when you contact a contractor to clean crawlspace, you ensure that your family breathes quality air. You also prevent damages of floors and walls due to moisture. The area is sealed and moisture cannot enter inside the home. Moreover, the cost of maintenance and repair of a home is minimized because the damages caused by moisture are eliminated.
