The Different Kinds Of Safety Vests

By Amanda Baird

For various outdoor jobs, safety vests are crucial to protect the person working. Such jobs i. E. Construction, emergency response, traffic control have high risks and thereby require workers to put on these protective clothing are created using reflective material. The purpose is to increase visibility of the workers thereby avoiding accidents. It is a legal requirement in a country that workers in these risky environments put on these clothing.

These protective gears are available in distinct colors for different work places. Also the color differentiates high risk jobs from the ones with low risks. An employer is required to be aware of the different colors and their meaning and then determine which is suitable for his organization. Safety wear is never an option but a necessity.

Different classes of protective wear exist. The first class are those used in occupations with low traffic and where employees have high visibility of oncoming vehicles or equipment. Vehicles and equipment in such an occupation are moved in a speed not exceeding 25mphs. Employees who wear type 1 material include parking lot attendants, shopping carts retrievers among other people. Color of material used in this category may be orange, lime green or yellow.

The next category is class 2 and is used in jobs likely to be affected by poor weather conditions or traffic is at a speed above 25mphs. The tasks performed by people in these jobs usually distract them from checking oncoming vehicles and equipment. Jobs that utilize class 2 gear include crossing guards, traffic control jobs, and airport ground crew among other occupations. Their color code can be yellow, orange or lime and they are fluorescent colors.

The last category is class 3 and these offer the greatest kind of visibility. They are used in works where the worker is exposed to high speeds with limited visibility. The work load for such occupations is also high. Examples of such occupations include; road construction, emergency response among other jobs which may require these kind of gears. One characteristic of the clothing in this group is that they have sleeves which protect arms of the user and also chest.

The color for class 3 clothing differs for various occupations. Paramedics who respond to emergency situations put on green colored vests. For fire fighters, their color is red while for cops theirs is blue colored clothing. The reflective material in this category is high usually incorporating white or silver reflective strips to create high visibility. To improve visibility of such workers at night, some vests have been manufactured with LED or lighting materials.

For people who may be wondering where to get these protective gears, they can be obtained from any store online or offline. They exist in various colors and textures for different occupations. Their prices are also affordable and one should consider safety and comfort first before picking the most appropriate clothing.

To avoid any accidents that would happen if employees were not being seen, workers must put on safety vests. This improves their visibility and hence protecting them. Also productivity is increased when the employees put on such gears as they would not be constantly worrying about oncoming traffic. As an employer, this clothing must always be worn by workers before doing anything.
