Growing up without parents is without a doubt a very rough experience. Not only would the child be lacking in terms of financial and material support but there is also the lack of love that serves only to intensify the loneliness that is surely being felt. Now imagine how bad Kenyan orphans must have it, compared to an orphan in a developed country.
The biggest culprit for their suffering would be AIDS, which is killing people off and tearing families apart left and right. It has proven so disastrous that there is actually an increase of the number of orphans compared to a few years back. With their parents succumbing to AIDS, they have practically no where else left to go to. Distant relatives may or may not be of help to them.
The fact that the numbers are rising should not be tolerated. And in response to this, many outreach programs have been established, each with a singular mind to help these unfortunate children out regardless of what approach these individual programs took. These programs have done a lot to make a difference in the lives of these kids.
The ultimate aim here would be to relieve the pain caused by the death of their parents and to try to give them a better life. It is not easy to love a loved one to AIDS or any other disease. At least, with some help and support, their lives will not turn out completely miserable.
There are many ways for people in much better off scenarios to help their less fortunate African brothers and sisters. Possibly the most common way would be to send in a donation. It can be in any amount so no one is forcing anyone to do anything and this would be strictly out of pure kindness.
Another method to help out would be becoming a sponsor. This is a greater responsibility to bear than simply donating something. In this role, the life of a single orphan rests in the palm of your hand. They will be the monthly recipients of whatever you can afford to send and it will be spent on their daily needs.
That part of the deal also means correspondence. It may not be frequent, since most kids will be able to write to their sponsors at a rate of maybe two to four times in a year. This is a nice way for both parties to get to know each other and maybe from there, something can be learned from their respective lives.
Those that are personally involved are usually made to undergo certain missions and journeys for various reasons. Africa is a big place, and it comes as no surprise that these programs would stretch themselves across the land to reach out to as many as they can, although truth be told, it would be impossible to cover everything and everyone. Events may be organized to keep the children happy and busy with themselves.
Kenyan orphans will definitely benefit from all of these efforts. It is just a start for some, though. It may never be over due to the increasing number of orphans that is mounting on a daily basis.
