There is no doubt that having no parents as you grow up is tough. As a child, you would lack so many things beyond material possessions. The love and support that comes with parents will also be deprived of you. For Kenyan orphans, this is the only life they have ever known, with their mothers and fathers either dead or missing somewhere.
The biggest culprit for their suffering would be AIDS, which is killing people off and tearing families apart left and right. It has proven so disastrous that there is actually an increase of the number of orphans compared to a few years back. With their parents succumbing to AIDS, they have practically no where else left to go to. Distant relatives may or may not be of help to them.
With the number of orphaned kids increasing by the day, something has to be done. Over the past several years, numerous outreach programs have sprouted dedicated to helping out the downtrodden and the unfortunate ones. Although they may have their own way of doing things, they all share a common goal and that is to fight for the kids.
The ultimate aim here would be to relieve the pain caused by the death of their parents and to try to give them a better life. It is not easy to love a loved one to AIDS or any other disease. At least, with some help and support, their lives will not turn out completely miserable.
For those who cannot be there in person, there are still many ways to help out. A common method would be to send in some money for a donation. In fact, it does not even have to be money, since it can be clothes and other items as well. There is no required amount and all of this is done out of kindness.
Another way is to become a sponsor, which is a much greater responsibility that just being a donor. This basically means being responsible for the life of one of the orphans who will be the recipient of all your monthly sponsorships. From this, they can benefit with daily meals, clothes, medical care, an education and many more.
That part of the deal also means correspondence. It may not be frequent, since most kids will be able to write to their sponsors at a rate of maybe two to four times in a year. This is a nice way for both parties to get to know each other and maybe from there, something can be learned from their respective lives.
The kind men and women personally involved in these programs will have to undertake numerous missions and perform certain tasks. It can be as simple as organizing events so that the children can enjoy themselves or it can involve at lot of travel as well. It is another effort to reach out to more kids, despite the unlikeliness of benefiting all of them.
Kenyan orphans will definitely benefit from all of these efforts. It is just a start for some, though. It may never be over due to the increasing number of orphans that is mounting on a daily basis.
