When deciding to pursue a phlebotomy vocation, a person has to take a serious look at whether their personality fits in doing what is necessary from the job. Signing up for a phlebotomy training course is a big investment so prior to making the commitment you should do your homework.



First, a phlebotomist has got to love science. A passion for science will ensure that the phlebotomist continues to learn and still love their job day in and day out. Passion for everything you do and also the passion to continually keep learning are key in how successful you're going to be in getting through the phlebotomy training curriculum.



Another excellent personality trait that can help you along in your phlebotomy career is being a people person. You might get a person who is nervous about having his blood drawn so it is always beneficial to have the communication skills to calm them down and talk them through the process so that they feel comfortable.The patient could also be uncooperative because they're just not having a good day so again this is where having the right communication skills is a plus.By being an amicable person, you'll be equipped to help them go through the hard time or a distressing procedure.



One other critical personality trait in having a successful phlebotomy career is not be squeamish. Although this would seem to go without saying, its surprising the number of individuals who begin to train as a phlebotomist only to discover that they simply can't stand the sight of blood.You might not have been exposed If you have never given blood or had your blood drawn, do so prior to pursuing phlebotomy training. In the event that this is too much or the sight of blood makes your stomach turn, it'll be smart to pursue some other career choice. Also , since a patient may be uncomfortable, it's possible they might throw up when giving blood,You have to be sure this won't be a major issue for you either.
