The Whistleblower Hotline And Other Things Witnesses To Crime Should Do

By Sue Carpenter

There are events that would change the way people would look at the way they live their lives. And while it is good to have these life-changing events, presence of mind is important. Witnessing a crime for instance, is the farthest thing to what a person would want to hear. If it is one big crime, the witness should call for the whistleblower hotline and be protected.

The key witnesses will be searched by the forensics to see the circumstances of the crime. They will assess if the person who presents to witness the crime is credible. They have to follow certain criteria to see if that is believable or not. Protection could be given to their family as well if necessary.

Calling the authorities is the prime consideration when a person witnesses a crime. It is very difficult to have the story just forgotten and the authorities know how to handle it. They will offer to protect the witness especially if the facts are accurate. They want to take hold of this prime person so that the investigation would pull through.

The witness should look for a safe place. The perpetrator could get back at them should they know that someone has seen what happened. If the incident just happened, docking on any hidden space or running away in safety is fine. One should just make sure that the authority learns of it.

Crimes where the victim is injured should be all about thinking quick. Immediate medical assistance is needed and the witness should offer that. First aid or calling an ambulance should be done first thing. This will help preserve the life of the victim and get things in proper perspective. At the hospital, the witness will also be safe as authorities are going to protect them.

The authorities should come rushing in. The hospital staff would usually make things easier for everyone. If the person taken to them is a victim of any crime, they will instantly alert the authorities. Soon after the person and the witness is taken to the hospital, police will already be taking care of their safety. The perpetrator will not have a chance to go near them.

The crime scene must not be changed. There are vital pieces of evidence in the area. All of these things are crucial for solving the crime. It would be very important not to move anything in the area so that the crime would be easier to solve and things will be settled.

The witness should pay attention. Panic is very evident and that is understandable. It would not be good though if the person would remain that way. There are questions that the police would ask and wrong information could forfeit the protection to be given. Finding calm within is necessary.

With the whistleblower hotline, the witnesses could find a way to help in solving the crimes. There are times when these things would be very difficult to do. There are worries that they will be putting their lives in line. Nonetheless, the most important thing they could do is to just help out and tell the story of what they have seen. This will greatly help the victim find justice.
