You might be looking for a way to try out Ubuntu Linux but don’t like the idea of creating a partition, using a slow live CD, or don’t have enough resources to run a virtual machine. Today we take a look at using the Wubi installer to get Ubuntu running on your computer with very little effort.
Wubi is an officially supported Ubuntu installer that allows Windows users to easily get started in the Linux realm. Using Wubi to install Ubuntu is a similar process you’d use to install any other software program in Windows. It saves you the hassle of creating another partition or creating a VM. Wubi has been around for a few years now, and official version have been included on the Ubuntu Live CD since 8.04 “Hardy Heron”. We’ll take a look at installing Wubi from the Ubuntu Live CD and also downloading Wubi.exe separately and installing Ubuntu.

In this first method we’ve already downloaded the Ubuntu Live ISO and burned it to CD. In Windows pop in the Ubuntu 9.10 installation disc and run wubi.exe.

At the Ubuntu Installer screen you choose the language, install drive, installation size, username and password then when you’re finished click Install.

Give it a few moments while the installation kicks off…

If you don’t already have the Ubuntu CD, another option is to download the Wubi Installer and kick off the install process. This simplifies the process even more because you don’t need to download the ISO and burn it to disc. One thing to point out with this method is you’ll get extra choices for the type of Desktop Environment you wish to install. In this example we’re choosing the Kubuntu environment.

Now when the installation takes place, it will download the appropriate ISO for the chosen desktop environment. Kubuntu uses the KDE environment which is different from the Gnome used in Ubuntu. The main difference is that KDE is more flashy with graphics and might be easier for a Windows user to get comfortable with.

No matter which route you take to install Ubuntu with Wubi, everything is installed to C:\Ubuntu directory.

Booting Into Ubuntu
After the first reboot, you can choose between Windows 7 or Ubuntu at the Windows Boot Manager screen.

The first time you boot into Ubuntu, wait a few minutes while the installation finishes up. You’ll see a series of screens and then the main install screen is displayed showing progress and screens showing features offered in Ubuntu 10.12

Your system will reboot one more time and again you will have Windows 7 or Ubuntu to choose from.

When you select Ubuntu from the bootloader, it will go into the GRUB bootloader where you can select Ubuntu, Recovery Mode, or back to the Windows 7 Boot Manager.

At the Ubuntu login screen you’ll notice the username and password will be what you gave it in the steps above.

That’s really all there is to it…now you can easily boot into Ubuntu and get your geek on with this popular flavor of Linux.

Here is a look at the Kubuntu interface after a bit of tweaking…if you choose that route.

After Ubuntu has been completely installed, you can select the default boot system by going into Advance System Settings \ Startup and Recovery…then selecting between Windows or Ubuntu.

Uninstall Ubuntu
So you’ve tried Ubuntu and decided you don’t like it, so now what do you do? It’s easy…just uninstall it. Boot into Windows 7 and go into Add / Remove Programs…

Or use a utility like Revo Uninstaller.

The uninstall process is extremely simple as well and consists of two screens. Verify you want to uninstall Ubuntu…

That’s it! It’s uninstalled and you have your hard drive space back. When you reboot your system, there’s no leftover funky GRUB or other bootloader to worry about. Your PC will boot directly into Windows.

What kind of proof did I have that I'd do it? Nothing at all, aside from the fact that I knew I had been practicing...and that gut feeling you get any time you just know. I was "all in" for the chase. It took slightly while to catch and pass him, but I did it. Here's the funny portion, I in no way once questioned whether or not it would take place or not. I just ran, assuming it would!

We have to have that very same mentality with everything we do. You do the work, regularly, to turn into ready then have faith. Among all online tools I have tested, I believe that none can beat the power of Google Image Search as it returned the most amount of results for the same image as compared to other websites. To upload an image, click on the camera icon in the search bar and in the new window, you will be asked to upload an image from your computer or paste an image link directly. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop an image from your computer to the Google Image logo.

Unfortunately, Google Image API has been deprecated hence you can’t use it to build an application.

2. TinEye Reverse Image Search

TinEye also performs almost accurate image search as Google Image except that there’re fewer results. This might be because Google Image has more images indexed in its database than TinEye’s 2 billion images. Nevertheless, TinEye has something that Google Image does not have – an API. This is may be why companies like Ebay and Istockphoto has turned to TinEye to integrate its technology in their app. It is not free for commercial use though.

3. PicTriev

This tool can perform image search for people faces only and not objects. As compared to TinEye and Google Images, it automatically detects the gender and the age of the person in the photo. It also gives a suggestion of the person’s name if it is a celebrity. An android app is available for your mobile phone.

4. Imgseek

This website provides a tool called isk-daemon, an open-source app developed in Python to start your own reverse image search service. However, you will probably need a powerful server to host all these images in your database. You can find a live demo of the application here. If you are looking for similar open source application, this list from wikipedia might come in handy. As for the test with this service, it is less accurate as compared to Google Image and TinEye, but it is worth to check it out.

5.retrievr

This was the least performing tool among all that I have tested, but it was worth listing it here since it provides a feature than no tools above has – it allows you to sketch what you are looking for. For now, it is still an experimental tool and maybe we should give it more time, and it might probably outperform Google Image or TinEye in the future. Who knows?

Being one of my t-shirts is not an easy task. You get beat up all day long and then washed improperly at some point, if washed at all, before being thrown in the "clean" pile on my floor. One of the advantages of living a completely disorganized existence is that things like laundry are really simple.

When I drag my pitiable body out of bed each morning, it is very easy for me to get dressed. I always wear t-shirts and they are always in a big, messy lump of clothes at the foot of my bed. My clean clothes pile is much different then my dirty clothes pile, because it is much smaller and closer to my hand when I sit on the edge of my bed.

One of the absolute worst parts about being one of my t-shirts is that I am, unfortunately, a giant fat computer nerd. This puts something of a nasty strain on my t-shirts everyday, and everyday they have to be stretched out of shape. Yeah, I put on some weight over the course of the last year. Does that mean I stop wearing my t-shirts I bought a year ago? No sir! They get the stretch-treatment.

Once you're completely stretched out of shape, you are then smoothed over with my hands...as if that ever has worked to get wrinkled out of t-shirts. You then get to enjoy breakfast with me, as it is almost certain that you will have part of it dropped down onto you. You'll be marked with a dark grease spot for the rest of the day, and I really won't care that much at all.

T-shirts are always going to serve one major use, and that is to hide my body from the ever-lustful eyes of chubby-chasers everywhere. A secondary, less-known role you may serve as my t-shirt is one of sanitation. This is a super-important aspect of your existence as my shirt, because I REALLY hate getting stuff on my hands. It would be a waste of your absorbency not to wipe my hands off on you.

Depending on the severity of your appearance, you may end up going back into the "clean" clothes mound at the bottom of my bed. It is entirely possible that you did not suffer too many noticeable stains and can be worn again the next day. If this is so, then you are one of the lucky t-shirts. The unlucky t-shirts must go...to the wash.

Your experience in the washing machine with the other dirty t-shirts is not a pleasant one. I have learned a long time ago that it takes really hot water to get out most food stains, so you are punished severely for my sloppiness. You will most likely shrink, but your ritual morning-stretching will return you to the appropriate shape and size.

Let us all hope for your sake that people never get reincarnated into inanimate objects. Most people are good, but a few may be awful enough to be sent back to earth as one of the t-shirts belonging to a socially awkward, disorganized, fat nerd.
